CRATING

When properly constructed, crates provide protection for your product. Cratex has a wealth of experience and knowledge to draw from to ensure that your product is crated properly.

Proper crating means that the product is blocked and banded so that it cannot move or shift inside the crate. Rubber, wood and cardboard are used to ensure that the strapping and blocking does not damage the product. Care is taken to limit moisture damage through the use of vapour barriers and rust inhibitors. The product is fully enclosed within the crate using sturdy wood and the crate is secured with nails and steel banding. Cratex crates consist of a combination of ½” or ¾” plywood, 2×4’s, 4×4’s, and 2×10’s. An even weight distribution and a solid deck are essential. The crate is finished only after the lid has been secured, IPPC (International Plant Protection Convention) certification markings and consignee markings have been professionally stenciled onto the crate with indelible ink.

EASY CRATES

Easy Crates are sturdy crates which can be shipped knocked-down, requiring less space and expense for transportation. The crates can be easily assembled once they arrive on site.

EMPTY CRATES

Custom built crates offer a variety of uses and are an excellent solution to the need for pallet racking or transport bins.

Plywood Boxes

Plywood boxes are light-duty crates without the typical 2”x4” framing found on our regular crates. Plywood boxes are most commonly used for light weight material travelling by air.

Bins for Pallet Racking

Cratex builds heavy duty bins for warehousing and transporting material. Bins and skids with walls or lips are excellent for keeping material organized and safe on pallet racking.

Reusable Crates

Reusable crates are most often used for display material or tradeshows. Metal latches, hinges, chains and corners are all available options. We are happy to give you our advice on the best product to serve your needs.

Air Freight Crates

Designed to spec as per individual airlines dimensional requirements.

Typically air freight crates are lighter duty with four way banding and screws used to fasten the lids.

White Industrial Shink Wrap

Industrial poly gives your item protection from water, road contamination and harmful UV rays. This is a cost-effective way to ensure excellent protection from the elements.

VCI Rust Inhibiting Poly

VCI Poly is a special and highly used product at Cratex; VCI poly is our best defense against corrosion damage. Overseas shipments require the protection offered by VCI poly because of humidity and salt water. VCI poly allows us to say with conviction and confidence: Your material will arrive at the destination looking the same as when it left!

VCI shrink-wrap for ferrous and non-ferrous metals contains proprietary chemical formulations that release an invisible, odourless, and non-toxic corrosion inhibiting vapour into the air. Molecules settle on exposed metal surfaces and interrupt the electrochemical corrosion process. When the parts are removed from the packaging, the corrosion inhibiting molecular layer will vaporize into the atmosphere leaving behind clean, dry, corrosion free parts ready for immediate use.

A variety of coatings and sprays are available depending upon the nature of the product, the method of transportation and climate storage conditions.

Reel Lagging

Reel lagging protects your cable and wire rope from the elements, theft and mishandling.
